The LSAT’s Significance for Law School Admissions

US law schools consider LSAT scores essential to the admissions process. The LSAT thoroughly assesses your abilities in critical thinking, logical reasoning, and reading comprehension. Research consistently shows that LSAT performance predicts first-year law school success better than undergraduate GPA.

To take the exam, you must sign up for LSAT before your chosen LSAT date. Through your account, you can have access to score reports as they become available.

LSAT Sections Overview

What is the LSAT? The LSAT consists of multiple-choice questions and reading passages under strict time constraints, each with unique demands.

  1. Logical Reasoning: This tests your ability to analyze, critically evaluate, and complete arguments. It shows students short readings and asks them questions about those passages’ thinking. Students must recognize assumptions, conclusions, key points, and argument faults. There will be two logical reasoning sections starting in August 2024.

  2. Reading Comprehension: This evaluates the ability to comprehend long, complicated reading materials. Science, law, the arts, and the humanities are among the topics covered in the passages. Students must next answer questions that assess skills such as reasonably making inferences, understanding tone, and identifying essential information.

  3. Experimental Section: Although it won’t impact your LSAT score, take it seriously—it’s seamlessly incorporated into the exam and includes 23-27 multiple-choice questions within a 35-minute timeframe.

  4. LSAT Writing: The writing section, a 30-minute prompt, evaluates critical reasoning in an extended essay form. It provides law schools with a sample of an applicant’s written communication capacities, which are vital for success in law school and legal careers.
